First published on the occasion of the inauguration of the Yale Center for British Art in 1977, this third edition of the standard book on the Center’s architecture includes a new foreword by its current director, Amy Meyers, bringing the celebration of the Center into the present day.
The Architecture of the Yale Center for British Art was a finalist in the category of design for the 2010 Connecticut Book Award, given by the Connecticut Center for the Book.

In this important and innovative volume, conservation architects Peter Inskip and Stephen Gee offer the most thorough analysis to date of the Yale Center for British Art, Louis I. Kahn’s last building. The authors describe the design, construction, and subsequent renovation of the Center, assess its cultural significance, analyze the materials that comprise it, and shed light on its evolution over the four decades since it opened to the public in 1977. Drawing on their extensive experience developing conservation plans for both important historic sites and modern buildings, they propose a series of policies for the Center which includes identifying key architectural features that should be protected from alteration and those that could be allowed to change over time. In addition, they outline the means to properly care for the materials that comprise this landmark building.
