Documentary Film Screening | Handsworth Songs

Filmed in Handsworth and London during the riots of 1985 and using extensive archive footage, this award-winning documentary (1986; not rated; 59 minutes) directed by John Akomfrah explores the experiences of race and civil disorder in both historical and contemporary situations. Maryam Ohadi-Hamadani, Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Center, will introduce the film and refreshments will be served.
This film is screened to complement the exhibitions Peterloo and Protest and Migrating Worlds: The Art of the Moving Image in Britain.
