Summer Teacher Institute 2022 | Exploring the Museum as your Classroom: Writing, Looking, Sketching

About this program

This free program offers practicing K-12 teachers an enriched understanding of how visual art can support students’ reading, writing, and thinking. Workshops, discussions, and lectures by university faculty and museum educators demonstrate how “visual text” can be used to enhance literacy instruction. Institute sessions include hands-on experience with works of art and exploring ways to make the museum an extension of the classroom. Participants receive the tools they need to lead dynamic museum visits and to incorporate visual arts into classroom instruction.

All sessions take place in person at the YCBA. Parking and boxed lunches are provided. Space is limited to twenty-five participants.

This project is generously supported by the William Randolph Hearst Endowment.

Teachers must attend all sessions:

Monday, June 27, through Wednesday, June 29, 2022
10 am–3 pm daily
