Program

Caring for Works on Paper: Housing and Framing

Space is limited
Free admission

The Yale Center for British Art (YCBA) stewards a wide variety of works of art on paper, including drawings, photographs, prints, and watercolors. Different formats and media require a wide variety of enclosures to ensure they are effectively preserved, beautifully displayed, and safely available for everyone’s enjoyment.

In this program, Jessica Makin, Conservation Assistant, will use examples of works on paper from the collection in various media to demonstrate common enclosures used in the YCBA’s museum storage and display. She will discuss museum standards for different types of materials, as well as common artwork media that require special housing considerations.

Conversations about Conservation

Join us in the Study Room for a series of talks featuring works from the collection presented by members of the Yale Center for British Art (YCBA) Conservation department. Speakers will highlight objects in the collection, discuss how the artworks were made, and describe conservation treatments that have been performed. In addition, collections care, technical analysis, and the relationship of media to meaning will be explored.
