Travel and Accommodation
The Center assumes responsibility for the arrangement and cost of your round-trip travel from your point of origin to New Haven. This includes economy-class air or rail fare and related ground transportation. During your residency at the Center, accommodation in a fully furnished one-bedroom apartment is provided.
Visas and Per diem
The Center will provide you with a per diem at the Federal rate to cover your expenses during your residency at the Center (not including travel dates). This is set annually and is subject to change. International Scholars must enter the US on a J1 Visa in order for a per diem payment to be issued. If you are an international scholar and do not enter the US on a J1 visa, the Center’s ability to reimburse you may be compromised. The Center will assist you with the visa process and will cover the administrative fees associated with acquiring a visa.
Insurance
It is mandatory that you maintain your own health, accident, and travel insurance while in the US. Please be sure to take out adequate coverage before you embark on your journey.
Arrival Procedure
On your first day at the Center, we will assist you with getting your Yale ID, which will give you access to Yale libraries and borrowing privileges and also introduce you to Center staff who will be able to assist you with accessing Yale collections and other research queries that you may have.
We recommend bringing a personal laptop as we do not provide computers for use during your stay unless needed and requested in advance. If you are in need of a computer, you will have to contact our Research department (ycba.research@yale.edu | +1 203 432 2824) prior to your arrival.
