Elizabeth S. Tower Collection of British Drawings and Watercolors

In 1988, Elizabeth S. Tower bequeathed to the Yale Center for British Art a collection of thirty-two British watercolors that she had assembled during two decades of enthusiastic and informed involvement with this tradition. Ranging from the last quarter of the nineteenth century to the first quarter of the twentieth century, this personal survey of the British school includes works by twenty-four artists, such as Augustus and Gwen John, Walter Crane, Edward Lear, Paul Nash, Walter Sickert, Albert Goodwin, Vanessa Bell, and Hercules Brabazon Brabazon. The exhibition showcased Tower’s collection, celebrating her devotion to the graphic arts and her lifelong commitment to public museums.
