Find Your Story Here: In the Garden
Join Angie Lopez, PhD Candidate in the History of Art at Yale, as they discuss Howard Sooley’s photographs of Prospect Cottage, the home and garden of visionary gay film director Derek Jarman. These photographs suggest that gardening was a way of making a home, caring for the land, and mourning the loss of friends during the AIDS crisis.
About this program
Leave winter behind and join us for a series of gallery talks that explore a selection of photographs related to gardens and botanicals in the exhibition Sightlines: British Landscape Photography, 1840 to Now.
About Angie Lopez
Angie Lopez is an art historian interested in modern and contemporary art at the intersections of queer and transgender life, conditions of precarity, and the religious imaginary. Their dissertation, “Thick and Fragile: Jerome Caja’s Art and Legacy,” understands the work of late twentieth-century artist and Queercore performer Jerome Caja as engaging with alternative notions of history, value, intimacy, collectivity, and institutional (il)legibility.
