Hogarth: His Art, Life, and Times

William Hogarth is a renowned English engraver and painter described by described by Horace Walpole as “that great and original genius.” This symposium celebrates Professor Ronald Paulson (1930-2024) and the gift of his papers on Hogarth, together with a legacy endowment to establish a fellowship at the Lewis Walpole Library in memory of his son, Andrew Meredith Paulson. Speakers will present new research on the artist, across multi-disciplinary perspectives. Panel themes will include “Paulson’s Hogarth,” “Drawing,” “Nation and Empire,” and “Social and Political Critique.”
 

Organized by the Lewis Walpole Library in collaboration with the Yale Center for British Art, Yale Library, and the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library.

The symposium is free and open to the public. Registration is requested.
