In Conversation | Material Concerns: Preserving Appearance

Sandra Amann, painting conservator and co-principal of Amann+Estabrook Conservation, in conversation with Mark Aronson, Deputy Director and Chief Conservator, YCBA

About this program

Presented in conjunction with Bridget Riley: Perceptual Abstraction, this program will feature a discussion of Riley’s painting technique and the challenges contemporary color field painting presents to painting conservators.

About Sandra Amann

Amann is a painting conservator and co-principal of Amann+Estabrook Conservation, which was founded in 1994 with a specialization in the conservation of modern and contemporary paintings and objects of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. With six conservators, the lab is well known for its work with Abstract Expressionist, Color Field, Minimalist, and Pop art, as well as with art from the first half of the twentieth century. Close relationships between the studio and leading artists and their estates have helped inform and develop treatment strategies.

This program is presented through the generosity of the Terry F. Green 1969 Fund for British Art and Culture.
