Look closely at a single artwork through the ongoing research of our residential fellows, research students, and staff. Susie Beckham, PhD, is a Postdoctoral Associate in the Research Department at the YCBA. She will share how Victorian satirist Florence Claxton played upon the popular understanding of Pre-Raphaelite art in 1860 in her humorous, visual critique of the principles of the movement, its leaders, notable pictures, and perception of a horrifying aesthetic of beauty.
