Short Subjects: Rare Books—Sam Smith

Trained as an architect, the British artist Sam Smith (1908–1983) retired early to a career as an illustrator and carver of witty and irreverent small wooden sculptures.

Drawn from the Center’s collection, Short Subjects: Rare Books was a continuing series of small thematic exhibitions on view from 1979 to 1996.
