Postgraduate Associate in Paper Conservation

The Yale Center for British Art (YCBA) is offering a Postgraduate Associate position for one year in the Paper Conservation Department. This position is open to individuals who have completed a bachelor’s degree in art history, studio art, conservation, or a related field, and are seeking to gain experience to apply to a graduate program in the field of conservation. A demonstrated interest in conservation and preservation is preferred.

The Postgraduate Associate will report to the Head of Paper Conservation and will contribute to a range of activities in the Conservation Department. This position provides the opportunity to gain firsthand experience and professional training in treating works on paper from the museum’s collections of Archives, Prints & Drawings, and Rare Books & Manuscripts. Future departmental projects include assessing the conservation needs of large volumes of prints and drawings, and textile samplers, and completing any required treatments including mending, surface cleaning, washing, and rehousing.

The postholder will be fully integrated into the department and will contribute significantly to the assessment and treatment of museum objects, exhibition related research, preventive conservation, and other departmental activities. They will join a cohort of Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Associates and Fellows in the wider Yale University community and participate in their shared activities. The postholder will have the opportunity to plan a research program in collaboration with the museum’s Research Department

The closing date for applications is July 10, 2023. The salary range for this position is $42,000 to $48,000.
