Residential awards

The Yale Center for British Art offers several short-term residential awards to academics, artists, curators, doctoral candidates, and writers to access the YCBA’s collections and library.
 

The deadline to apply to be a Residential Fellow between January 1 and June 30, 2026, is Monday, January 6, 2025, 11:59 pm ET. 

Awards

Fellows are given a dedicated working space in the museum’s Reference Library and encouraged to participate in events and programs, as well as to engage with the scholarly community of the university. They are also able to take advantage of the extensive collections at other Yale museums and libraries.

Residential Artist Awards

These awards are open to visual artists who are working in any field related to British visual and material culture and are intended to support the research phase of creative practice. Awardees will have access to the YCBA’s collections and library, and to the galleries, museums, and libraries on the wider Yale campus. Awardees will receive a dedicated working space in the museum’s Reference Library, but these awards do not include studio space.

Residential Curatorial Awards

These awards are open to curators from anywhere in the world who are engaged in significant curatorial work in the field of British art. Curators at municipal and regional museums are especially encouraged to apply and priority will be given to applicants with a demonstrated need for funding.

Residential Scholar Awards

These awards provide academics, independent scholars, and doctoral students working in any field related to British visual and material culture an opportunity to research the Yale Center for British Art’s collection.

Residential Writing Awards

These awards are open to poets and writers whose creative practice engages with any field related to British visual and material culture. Awardees will receive a dedicated working space in the museum’s Reference Library and will have access to the galleries, museums, and libraries on the wider Yale campus.

AHRC International Placement Scheme (IPS) Scholar Awards

These awards are open to early career researchers, research assistants, and doctoral students funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council. Applications must be made through the AHRC.

Henry Moore Foundation Residency

The Henry Moore Foundation (HMF) and the Yale Center for British Art (YCBA) annually award a monthlong residency to a current MFA student or recent MFA graduate of the Yale School of Art with an interest in Henry Moore’s art and life.

Nadia Sophie Seiler Rare Materials Residency

The Nadia Sophie Seiler Rare Materials Residency is a twelve-month term-limited postgraduate position to provide recent graduates of library, archives management, or similar graduate studies programs with substantive exposure to and training in archival description and rare materials cataloging.
