Apply for “The View from Here”

“The View from Here” (TVFH) is a photography program for rising eleventh and twelfth graders and first-year students at public universities or community colleges in the greater New Haven area. The program invites young people to engage deeply with visual art by exploring the history, materials, and practice of photography. Students learn the fundamentals of composing and capturing images using only smartphones or personal digital devices.

The Yale Center for British Art’s collection is the entry point for students to connect with photography in meaningful ways. Studying original historic and contemporary works of art allows students to discuss artistic choices and opens new perspectives and ideas. Through close collaboration with museum educators, Yale faculty, photographers, and other museum staff, students will consider the role of images in both museums and their own lives.

The program culminates in an exhibition showcasing the participants’ original work at Yale Schwarzman Center.

Program dates: September 25, 2025 – January 29, 2026
