Hours and Visitor Information

The Yale Center for British Art is closed for building conservation and will reopen in Spring 2025. 

Admission

Admission to The Yale Center for British Art is free. 

The museum is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sundays from 12 to 5 pm. The museum is closed on Mondays (except for Yale Commencement), and on New Year's Day, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve Day, and Christmas Day.

Visitor Guidelines

Wheelchairs are available for visitors’ use. If you require a wheelchair, please inform a staff member upon your arrival. For information about visual and auditory assistance, please visit our Accessibility page.

Backpacks, shopping bags, suitcases, umbrellas, and other large items are not permitted in the galleries. Lockers are available on the Lower Level.

No food or beverages are allowed in the galleries.

Noncommercial, non-flash photography is allowed unless otherwise noted. 

Please do not touch the art.

The Museum Shop is open online. Our physical storefront is closed until further notice.

We reserve the right to ask visitors who do not follow these guidelines to leave the museum. 

Directions

The Yale Center for British Art is located at 1080 Chapel Street, New Haven, between High and York Streets. The main entrance is on the southwest corner of Chapel and High Streets.

By Public Transportation

Metro-North, Amtrak, and Shoreline East provide train service to New Haven’s Union and State Street Stations. Public transportation between Union Station and the New Haven Green is available by free CT Transit Shuttle and Yale University Shuttle (Monday–Friday) or CT Transit bus 272.

By Car

From I-95, northbound or southbound, take Exit 47 Downtown New Haven/Rt 34. Take the exit to York Street and turn right. Follow York Street through two traffic lights, and the YCBA's lot is on the right. From I-91, take Exit 1 Downtown New Haven.


Parking

Visitors may park in the LAZ lot at 161 York Street (behind the museum) or the LAZ garage at 150 York Street. Additional parking is available in other area lots and metered spaces on the street around the museum. For more information about parking in downtown New Haven, visit The Shops at Yale.

Dining

The YCBA does not offer on-site dining, but Atticus Bookstore and Cafe may be found on the ground level and Harvest Wine Bar and Restaurant offers seasonal outdoor seating in a lower-level exterior courtyard. Many more dining options can be found within walking distance of the museum.

Shopping

Local boutiques and retail shops offer a wide variety of merchandise, including handmade and fine jewelry, books, designer clothes, activewear, beauty products, and artisanal foods. Additional restaurants and merchants are located on the ground level of the YCBA, including Derek Simpson Goldsmith, Froyo World, and The Juice Box.
