Founder's Birthday

Free admission

Celebrate the birthday of the museum's benefactor, Paul Mellon (1907–1999), with a special viewing of the fourth-floor Founder's Room.

Explore the Founder's Room, which commemorates the life, interests, and generosity of Paul Mellon (Yale College, Class of 1929). Featured in the room are paintings by John Constable, George Stubbs, and Francis Wheatley; books from Mr. Mellon's collection; and other personal memorabilia, such as the oars from his time on the Clare College crew team while a student at the University of Cambridge.

Normally closed to the public, the room will be open to all visitors in celebration of our benefactor's birthday. Say hello to our museum docents, who will there to answer questions about Mr. Mellon, his collection, and the history of the Yale Center for British Art.
