About this tour

Andrew McLaren, a docent at the Center, will lead an online tour focusing on the works of George Stubbs (1724–1806) and Joseph Wright of Derby (1734–1797). Featuring examples from the Center’s collection and other major museums’ holdings, McLaren will present the anatomical horse drawings for which Stubbs is renowned alongside dramatic domestic scenes by Wright. The history of the Grand Tour and the experiences that influenced these artists and shaped their unique approaches to painting will be discussed.
