Standardizing Museum Provenance for the Twenty-First Century
Conversation
February 27, 2017
Colleagues from the Carnegie Museum of Art (CMOA), Louise Lippincott, Fine Arts Curator; Costas Karakatsanis, Provenance Researcher; and David Newbury, Lead Developer, will discuss how Art Tracks, CMOA’s National Endowment for the Humanities-funded digital provenance project, was formed through the combined efforts of technologists, curators, and provenance researchers. They will provide an overview of the project, discuss their current research of the Northbrook Collection, and share insights about the collaboration that resulted from this cross-disciplinary project. The presenters will particularly address their design for multilevel provenance modeling that supports various levels of structured provenance data. They will also discuss the concept of human-augmented digital research and Linked Data embedded in provenance.
