For sixteen years, Weller has worked closely with artist Tracey Emin, whose work is the subject of the YCBA exhibition Tracey Emin: I Loved You Until The Morning (opening March 29). This conversation will highlight Weller’s experiences in managing a high-profile studio, his creative relationship with Emin, and his engagements with the local and international art market. Brooks is Director of Programs and Exhibitions at NXTHVN, a New Haven art space that fosters the creative and business careers of artists.
About Harry Weller
Harry Weller is the creative director of artist Tracey Emin's studio. In his multifaceted role, Weller manages press relations, licensing agreements, charity initiatives, exhibition requests, consignment agreements, archives, and inventory, as well as overseeing all bronze fabrication. He is a regular presence in Emin’s painting studio, where he engages as a creative counterpart, challenging and questioning her throughout the artistic process. He actively collaborates in planning and curating exhibitions and participated in organizing I Loved You Until The Morning at the YCBA. He also serves as the primary liaison with the three galleries that represent Emin: White Cube, Xavier Hufkens, and Galleria Lorcan O’Neill Roma. He holds a first-class honors degree in fine art.
About Kalia Brooks
Kalia Brooks is the director of programs and exhibitions at NXTHVN, an arts incubator, gallery, studio, and community center founded by Titus Kaphar and Jason Price and located in the historic Dixwell neighborhood of New Haven, Connecticut. Brooks is responsible for the design and delivery of curatorial exhibitions, public programs, artist projects, community engagement initiatives, and the learning environment for NXTHVN’s fellowship and apprenticeship programs. Her academic research covers art from the nineteenth century to the present, with an emphasis on emergent technologies and African American, transatlantic, and diasporic cultures of the Americas. She is a coeditor (with Deborah Willis and Ellyn Toscano) of Women and Migration: Responses in Art and History (two volumes, 2019 and 2022). Brooks has served as a consulting curator with the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. She holds a PhD in aesthetics and art theory from the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts (IDSVA).
